Hermanus History Society

Welcome to the history society, we look forward to you renewing your membership, form attached on your email.

As mentioned at the last meeting the history society is supporting the Friends of the old Harbour Museum.

The main objectives of the Friends of the Old Harbour Museum are to increase public interest, canvass community support, encourage the community to donate or bequeath articles to the museum, promote genealogical, social, cultural and economic research and to cooperate with institutions and associations that have similar objections as the Friends. It is also to assist the staff of the museum, purchase, hire or otherwise acquire any movable or immovable property; sell, transfer, let, or alienate the aforesaid items in a manner determined by management; to raise, invest and expend funds for the benefit of the museum and the promotion of the foregoing objectives.

Membership is open to any person or institution that support the objectives of the Friends. Membership fee is R100 per person until the end of this financial.

First meeting

We are working on organising a visit to NATIONAL SEA RESCUE STATION 17, in Hermanus, sometime in February. This will include a talk on the history of NSRI and the history of Station 17 followed a walk through the station and a talk about its functioning. A conducted viewing of the new state of the art rescue boat will be part of the experience.
Ibali Lethu at the Cave, our new theatre is sited in the old Harbour and has recently performed productions with song, dance and storytelling taking the audience on a historical journey of Hermanus. Some of the HHS committee attended the inaugural play, December performances have been enjoyed.
