Hermanus Fishing History: Personal Stories

Hermanus Fishing History: Personal Stories

Hermanus History Society

The boat club is based in the new harbour, was established in 1993 and promotes sustainable boat based fishing. The membership consists of experienced anglers and boat owners.  Walter Mapham, the chairperson knew that many of his members had personal history stories to share. A small number of club members presented their rich and varied stories to a small number of history society members.

These stories reflected the period between 1948 and the present time. Considered outcomes of this event may be to hold a history society members meeting and secondly an added interest is that the new harbour may be developed into a tourist hub.

The history society has begun to record the new harbour’s local history and in collaboration with the boat club would include fishermen’s tales.
